On April 28, 2025, the Department of Legal Informatics, Information and Digital Law, the Scientific and Educational Center "Digital Educational Environment" of the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University, in collaboration with the "Garant" company, conducted a training and methodological seminar "Law in the Age of AI."

Opening the seminar, the Director of the Scientific and Educational Center "Digital Educational Environment," Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Informatics, Information and Digital Law, M.V. Voronin, emphasized the importance of such events for lecturers and students. Maksim Valeryevich conveyed greetings to the attendees from the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, A.K. Golichenkov, and the Head of the Department of Legal Informatics, Information and Digital Law, Professor V.A. Vaipan.

Lecturers of the department participated in the seminar: G.A. Mardanova, A.A. Svistunova, E.A. Shulgina, E.A. Yastrebova, N.V. Kosichenko; representatives of the "Garant" company: Production Director N.V. Tkachenko and Head of the Educational Technologies Department A.A. Avraamov; as well as Associate Professor of the O.E. Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) N.V. Pal'yanova.

The keynote report was delivered by R.V. Ukrainskiy, Head of the Research and Innovation Project at the "Garant" company. He spoke about modern technologies, responsibility, and the future of law, the influence of AI on legal practice and the nature of lawmaking and justice, and the place of humanity in the age of reasoning AI.

R.V. Ukrainskiy is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University, has worked at the "Garant" company for 27 years, and is one of the developers of the AI service "Iskra," which students of our faculty have used in practical classes. His lecture generated considerable interest, and after the seminar, a queue formed of those wishing to continue the discussion.

The seminar was attended by 90 first-year students and lecturers of the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University; 15 participants, including lecturers from other law universities, joined the practical session online.

In response to the question of what to teach students now that AI can answer any question and replace many specialists, R.V. Ukrainskiy stated: "Teach interaction with AI, the ability to formulate tasks and create personal AI assistants — accountants, programmers, marketers, secretaries, and so on." AI can significantly assist in lawmaking, law enforcement, and the construction of digital models of society and legislation. AI agents can become participants in legal relations, possessing legal personality similar to legal entities. Although a unified AI code is unlikely, it is necessary to develop procedures that allow the use of the results of AI activities in law.

The prospects for AI in legal education include the creation of research in the format of a student's dialogue with AI, the development of AI characters with different viewpoints for organizing debates, as well as the development of skills in critically perceiving information received from AI. A new understanding of humanity is the ability to set goals not only for oneself but also for the world as a whole.

The meeting demonstrated significant interest in the issues raised, and the organizers plan to continue holding such seminars. Until our next meeting!
